Four years of positive impact

We are coming to the end of our four-year partnership with Forestry England, supported by our Eco Fund, and what better way to celebrate than to get stuck in with some tree planting!

Members of the sustainability team were joined by colleagues from our Newcastle depot on a visit to Hamsterley Forest, the final planned project in our four-year partnership. This project involved the installation of a shelter and the planting of ornamental tree species to create a wellbeing space for visitors to the forest to enjoy.

A local craftsperson handmade the bespoke shelter structure, which includes accessible seating, and the future installation of paths will mean the new area will be fully connected to the existing site.

While we were there we were also able to take a walk along the current wellbeing trail available at Hamsterley and learn more about how this forest is managed by Forestry England. Forests are known for their ability to have positive impacts on our mental and physical health through access to exercise and improved air quality, and they have even been shown to lower blood pressure.

Over the last four years, we have been able to visit the sites we have supported, helping with tree planting and removing invasive species. We’re proud of the impact we have had, helping to create welcoming spaces for visitors and contributing to supporting the health of our forests. We look forward to exploring further opportunities to support the work of Forestry England in future.
